Healing Through Beekeeping

Supporting Veterans with PTSD

At Beacon Hill Honey, we are dedicated to helping veterans find peace, purpose, and healing through the transformative power of beekeeping. As an Army veteran, I have seen first hand the challenges our service men and women face with PTSD. Through my own journey, I discovered that the steady hum of the hive, the structured rhythm of beekeeping, and the deep connection to nature bring a sense of calm and focus that words can hardly capture. Experiencing this profound relief myself, I am committed to sharing the healing power of beekeeping with fellow service members, offering a path toward renewal and hope.

How Beekeeping Helps PTSD

Beekeeping is more than just tending to hives—it’s a therapeutic practice that engages the mind, calms the nervous system, and fosters mindfulness. Studies have shown that the natural frequency of a honeybee’s buzz (200-450 Hz) can help lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation. The structured tasks of hive management help provide a sense of control and purpose, which can be profoundly beneficial for those struggling with PTSD.

Join Us in the Apiary

We invite veterans and first responders living in Northern Virginia to join us for a hands-on beekeeping experience to begin your journey towards healing. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful escape, a new skill, or a way to reconnect with nature, spending time with honeybees offers a unique and rewarding form of therapy. We are here to give back to you and thank you for your service.
